On May 27, 1939, the SS St. Louis entered the harbor in Havana, Cuba with 930 Jewish refugees on board. The Cuban govt. revoked the certificatesand refused to let refugees ashore. For days the ship circled around Florida inhopes they would be able to dock, but was, once again, denied permission. They were forced to turn back toward Europe. More than 2/3 of the people on the ship were killed.
